Taste of America

As part of the Mayflower 2020 celebrations to Commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the 4 Pilgrims from Billericay who sailed on the Mayflower to the new world, The Lions this year chose “Taste of America” as their themed Taste Night / Quiz.

So on the 7th March, 90 guests gathered to have their taste buds tingled and their brains tested on all things American. The menu included Cheesy corn bread muffins, New York Bagels with Pastrami, Louisiana Crab Cakes, Sloppy Joes Mince, finished with Chocolate Pecan Brownies. The Quiz tested everyone’s knowledge and we had two tables tie for 1st place.

The Raffle sold well, and we made an overall profit of £536 for the evening which will go to the Lions Charities account to support our local community and causes.

Lions would like to thank all who came to support our evening, we hope you all enjoyed it. We also extend a big thank you to our Caterers, Jeans Catering, for their support this year and previous years as without them this would not be the great success it always is.

2019 Christmas Sleigh

The Lions Club of Billericay would like to thank all those who supported our annual Christmas Sleigh Charity collection in December, including local supermarkets Waitrose and Tesco, Basildon Town Council (Car Park), Essex Ford who for the tenth year running supplied the decorated tow car and Lincon Batteries who supplied the batteries to power the sleigh.

Billericay Firework Display

The Billericay Fireworks display is organised by the Billericay Round Table each November in Lake Meadows.

Billericay Lions have been pleased to help Round Table in putting on their wonderful Fireworks event each year. Lion volunteers help in any way required and are strong supporters of all the town’s Service Clubs working together for the good of Billericay and its residents.

Ruby Quiz

As part of the celebrations of 40 years of Billericay Lions we had a quiz about events since the founding of the club and 10, 20, 30 and 40 year anniversaries. The quiz was contested by ten teams with the eventual winners just three points ahead in the final reckoning

We held this event at the Christchurch Hall with guests bring their own food and drinks.

The hall was filled to near capacity. All who attended had a great evening and we raised over £600 for our charity account.

Wishing Well

In Cooperation with the Kings Head on the Southend Road, Billericay Lions maintain a Charity Wishing Well.

We welcome Patrons contributing any spare loose change, and we regularly empty and clean, collecting on average between £150-£200 per year.

Co-op Local Community Fund

Billericay Lions receiving their share of the Co-op community fund. The Funds will help pay for the New improved Sleigh soon to tour the streets of Billericay with Santa and his Elves.

New Sleigh

Santa needed a new sleigh to enable him to be able to continue with his collections. Thanks to grants received from Billericay Town Council and Basildon Borough Council plus a generous donation from the Co-op Community Fund we have been able to build a brand new sleigh fit for the 21st Century.

But of course none of this would have been possible without the help from Wayne Mack of Essex Woodcrafts who designed and cut the new panels, Dean Smith of Dean Smith Arts who painted the sleigh and Colin Sturgeon of Blasted Memories who provided the graphics, their businesses all being based at the Barleylands Craft Village. A huge thanks to them all as their help has been invaluable to ensure that the project was completed on time.
