Special Swimming Gala

Billericay Lions were delighted to support swimmers from Runnymede SwimAbility and their families at the Lions disability swimming gala held at Hitchin Swimming Centre on Saturday 18th April 2026.

The event brought together seven teams for a day of exciting and inclusive competition. Swimmers took part in 14 individual races and a relay event, with staggered starts based on previous times to give every competitor an equal chance of a close finish.

Runnymede SwimAbility, based at Runnymede Swimming Club in Benfleet, provides fantastic opportunities for swimmers with disabilities to develop their skills, train alongside mainstream squads and enjoy competitive swimming in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Billericay Lions have proudly supported SwimAbility for many years, including accompanying teams to international disability swimming events in Germany and Belgium, as well as helping host an international gala at Basildon Sporting Village.

The day once again highlighted the enthusiasm, determination and enjoyment shown by all the swimmers. It was wonderful to see so many families and supporters cheering from the poolside, helping create such a positive atmosphere throughout the gala.

Billericay Lions look forward to continuing their support for disability swimming and to being involved in another Essex disability gala later this year.
