Fundraising

The activities detailed below are only a small example of what we do to produce our income that let’s us support the individuals, charities and organisations we help. These are not the only means we use to raise funds.

Lions, unlike many other charities, use none of the cash given to us for administration. The costs of running the club are met entirely by the members own subscriptions, so you can be sure that when you donate £1 to a Lions club, that entire £1 will be used for the benefit of others less well off than yourself.

We always carefully monitor the causes we support; in some cases offering a conditional pledge thus ensuring all monies achieve our objectives.

Our fundraising activities include:

Christmas Sleigh Collection

Apart from the community service from the sleigh, it is our biggest annual fundraiser and in 2021 we were delighted to have achieved a new record collection of £9,815.

Over the 10 days of collections, the response this year from young and old was amazing, Santa and his sleigh pulled by matching Essex Ford sign written tow car proved very popular.

The volunteers manning the sleigh have great fun bringing annual Christmas joy to the streets of Billericay.

This fantastic collection will help us support local charities and good causes in 2022.

Billericay Beer Festival

A successful 9th Billericay Beer Festival was held at the end of June in 2019 at a new venue, Hannakins Farm Community Centre. Lions would like to thank all family and friends who helped to make the event a success and we mustn’t forget all the sponsors, without them we wouldn’t be able to hold the event.

The 10th Billericay Beer Festival due to be held 26-28 June 2020 was unfortunately postponed. See billericaybeerfestival.co.uk for further details as they become available.

Quizzes

Regular general knowledge charity quizzes are organised during the year.

Food Taste Nights

Following on from previous years our “Taste of” nights have proved very popular. These taste quizzes involve a number of taster courses of delicious foreign food interspersed with appropriately themed quiz questions.

Watch this space for our next Taste Night which will probably be “A Taste of South Africa” on 11 March 2023.

Barn Dances

This annual event is an American type supper where you bring and share food. We have an excellent caller who makes the dances very easy and enjoyable.
