Gone Too Soon
Last year’s President’s wife’s charity of choice was Gone to Soon.
On 22nd July we had the pleasure of inviting Lynda Currie, the founder of Gone Too Soon to come along to our Fellowship meeting to give us a talk about this local support group. Gone Too Soon are a local support group for parents who have lost a Son or Daughter, in any circumstances and if recent or a while ago.
Lyn explained that she launched the group in June 2017, after the loss of her son,Tony who had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and subsequently died in St. Luke’s Hospice, Basildon in April 2015.
As a result Lyn realised that her loss had left her in a very isolated place. So she started contacting other parents who had lost children and she soon realised that parents go through all sorts of emotions. Lyn explained that trying to come to terms with such a traumatic loss can be exhausting and draining, and that by meeting with other parents and sharing your feelings can help to know that you are not alone.
At the end of Lyn’s talk, she was presented with a cheque for £1,000 to enable the group to be able to continue with their very valuable work.
